Thousands of people enjoyed sunshine and scarecrows at what has been described as the “best yet” Trawden Garden Festival.

The family event, which was this year based around the theme of “History: Horrible or Otherwise” saw residents and visitors of all ages looking at competition entries, as well as getting entertained by activities including a bouncy castle, craft fair and performance from Earby Brass Band.

Categories included “Best Sunshine Strip”, “Best Family Scarecrow”, and “Best Large Garden”. The unique category “Best Pizza Pot” attracted many entries from youngsters at Trawden Forest Primary School. All results will be printed in the Colne Times next week.

Chairman of Garden Festival Committee Gill Walsh said: “The festival went fantastically well.

“Some of the things that people had done were unbelievable.”

And President of Trawden Garden Festival Jack Greenwood added: “I would like to thank everyone for coming and making our festival a success.”

As part of the festival, a wedding display bursting with dresses, veils and shoes from the 1920s to the present day was held at St Mary the Virgin Church. A harpist also entertained the crowds at the venue throughout the weekend.

Parish development officer Lynne Mitchell said: “The display was stunning and a real draw for bringing people into the church.”
