Nelson eyesore pub to be turned into shop?

Plans to turn a former Nelson pub into a retail unit have been submitted to Pendle Council.

The Hour Glass, in Leeds Road, has become a major eyesore alongside the main road and the application, if successful, should give the area a much-needed facelift.

Opened in 1963 when the Coldwell Inn lost its licence, the pub got its name from a row of cottages known as the Clock Face Cottages which stood on the opposite side of the road.

The pub itself was built on the site of a former cycle shop and closed around four years ago.

The application also asks for approval of changes to existing openings and the removal of external features.

Planning officers will use delegated powers to determine the application unless there are objections, in which case it will go to the council’s Nelson Committee on August 5th.

Other applications from the Nelson area submitted recently include:

Barrowford: Roof alterations at 11 Barleydale Road (Miss S. Duthoit).

Higham: Single-storey extension at 4 Acresbrook Road (Mr and Mrs Pearson).

Nelson: Siting of cabin at Nelson ATC, Clayton Street (NW RFCA); single-storey extension at 78 Walton Lane (Mrs Hussain); convert dwelling to two flats at 27 York Street (Mr M. Collins); convert house to two flats at 132 Hallam Road (Mr J. Carr); replacement play equipment at Bradley Nursery School, Bradley Road (LCC); first floor extension at 9 Causey Foot (Mr Z. Ahmed); single-storey extension at 26 Wickworth Street (Mr K. Aslam); single and two-storey extensions at 106 Regent Street (Mr M. Sakib).

Reedley: Vary condition on permission 13/09/0219P requiring pedestrian footway to be provided at Reedley Squash Club (Mr A. Kinder).
