At the Colne Muni today there will be an extravaganza of entertainment to help raise money for four-year-old Sam Shaw, who is suffering from an aggressive childhood cancer called neuroblastoma.
“Sam Shaw’s Big Day Out” will feature live bands and singers, DJs, party activities, a fire engine and mascots, all performing for free throughout the seven-hour event.
In order to give Sam the greatest odds of beating this disease, he needs treatment in America.
Fund-raisers have been trying to raise £250,000 and are halfway towards their target, yet there is a lot of money still to be raised.
Sam’s mum, Christine, worked for Pendle Leisure Trust, so when her former colleagues heard the news they were determined to help the family.
Vanessa Kelly, HR Manager, said: “Christine was a popular member of staff and we really felt for her and Sam when we heard the news. We wanted to do something and the rest of the staff were right behind us.
“It is an ambitious target, but every bit helps and if we can do our bit to get Sam to America, we will.”
Sam also has the support of Coun. Neil Butterworth, who said: “This event will be amazing, and there will be music for every single age group.”
Tickets for “Sam Shaw’s Big Day Out” cost £3 and are available at the box office at Colne Town Hall, in person or by ringing 01282 661234
