Tomorrow’s friendly derby between Nelson and Colne scheduled for tomorrow at Accross has been cancelled due to a lack of available players.
Colne will round off their pre-season preparations instead with a trip to Hurst Green tomorrow (kick-off 3 p.m.), before a home clash with Chadderton on Tuesday (kick-off 7-15 p.m.).
Over the week, Colne enjoyed wins over AFC Darwen and Haslingden St Mary’s.
On Saturday the Reds earned a resounding 5-1 win over Darwen.
Colne made the breakthrough after 38 minutes when Dominic Craig made a run across the edge of the penalty area before firing into the bottom corner of the net.
Darwen hardly had time to draw breath before they conceded a second goal a minute later when Kristian Evans forced the ball past the keeper and Jason Hart nipped in to finish.
Darwen reduced the arrears after 50 minutes when Karl Turner finished off a low cross from the left wing.
But Colne restored their advantage on the hour when Micky Saunders pulled the ball back for Carl Ellerton to blast a third goal.
Saunders added a fourth when he outjumped the keeper to head home after 85 minutes, and two minutes from time, Craig won the ball in midfield and surged forward before slotting in.
On Tuesday night, Colne won 2-0 at West Lancashire League outfit Haslingden.
In a frantic first half, highlights were a brilliant penalty save by Chris Thompson and a disallowed Andy Tinker goal.
Early in the second half, Hart’s penalty was well saved by Mark Clapham before Mark Coyne capitalised on a defensive mix-up and tapped home into an empty net.
In the dying minutes Coyne then combined well with Joe Shelmerdine who blasted in confidently.
On Saturday, Nelson won 5-1 at Old Blackburnians.
The Blues went ahead on 18 minutes, as Perry Jepson was fouled in the area and Ash Higgins scored from the spot.
Shortly after it was 2-0 as Andy Eaton slammed in a swerving drive.
Four minutes after the break, Nathan Lawless’ cross nestled in the back of the net, before substitutes Pat Furey netted twice to make it 5-0.
Blackburnians scored a consolation later on as it ended 5-1.
The Blues are at Ryton and Crawcrook Albion a week tomorrow, and on the 30th, host Silsden at Victoria Park in their final friendly.
