Nelson enjoyed two victories at the weekend, against East Lancashire and Rawtenstall.
On Saturday, at East Lancs, Nelson won the toss and elected to bat, and Tyler McGladdery and Max Howells piled on the runs, scoring 69 from 15 overs.
Their partnership was broken in the 18th over, as McGladdery was lbw to home professional Ockert Erasmus for 35 with the score on 85.
Howells completed his first senior 50 in the next over but was then caught behind for 51.
Pro Ryan Canning and David Crotty, back from injury, put on 111 in 25 overs before Canning was bowled by Erasmus for 45. Crotty, however, equalled his highest league score of 82 not out, and Nelson settled for 248-5.
Richard Meade and Howells opened the bowling for Nelson and Meade trapped David Pearson (3) lbw and then had Mini Bhada (8) caught behind, before having Mo Bhada (27) well caught at long-off by Toqir Hussain and Paul Kelly (1) caught behind.
It took Erasmus 35 overs to reach his 50, and he was out seven runs later when Hussain took another great catch in the deep.
With 108 runs required from six overs, the next three overs cost 14, 24, and 19 as David Turner hammered a 23-ball 50 which included six sixes.
But Meade forced Usama Chaudhary to sky a catch to Harrison Phelan at mid-wicket, to finish with 5-53, and move past 200 career league wickets, and East Lancs closed on 214-8, 34 runs short.
On Sunday, at home to Rawtenstall, Nelson won the toss again and batted, but both openers, McGladdery (8) and Howells (10), were dismissed in the first 10 overs.
Lewis Bradley and Canning put on 56 before the former was caught behind off Brett Pelser for 15.
Crotty helped his professional add 44 for the fourth wicket before he was caught at slip off Pelser for 20.
Canning advanced to 74, but he was caught behind off Pelser, and Thompson made 15 before getting stumped.
Wickets fell rapidly in the final few overs but Adil Ali hit an eight-ball 17 and Nelson were all out for 189.
In reply, Sam Kershaw and Chris Cook-Martin put on 42 before Phelan took a low catch off Thompson to remove Kershaw for 15. The runs still flowed until Cook-Martin, who hit an aggressive 42, lofted Thompson to Crotty at point. Pelser and Ellis Hussey then pushed the score along to 107-2 with 20 overs remaining.
Ali then caught and bowled Pelser for 13 and McGladdery caught and bowled Wrathmell off a full toss. Rawtenstall’s hopes faded when Ali trapped Hussey lbw for 34. Rizwan Shafiq made a quick 15 but when Phelan got him lbw, Rawtenstall went from 137-5 to 140 all out. Phelan finished with 2-20 but Ali had a career best 5-15.
Today Nelson are at home to Church, and at leaders Accrington on Sunday.
