An exciting three-week summer camp will be the first event put on by the new Colne Cricket Academy, we can announce.

Colne Cricket Club has now officially launched the academy, which aims to attract youngsters under the age of 16 into the sport.

The camp will be held from August 12th to August 30th, from 9am to 5-15pm, Monday to Friday. It will be hosted at the Horsfield, Colne Cricket Club’s ground, and is open to both boys and girls from eight to 16-years-old.

Cricket Club chairman Jane Williamson said: “We’re delighted to launch this initiative as part of our future club development programme.

“We want to get more young people playing cricket, and find our next generation of players for The Horsfield. The Academy will be led by our South African professional, Shadley van Schalkwyk, an ECB Level 2 coach, alongside Chris Gill and Brad Ramshead.

“They make a great team because they are all so passionate about developing our next generation, and here at Colne we want to give the youngsters a real chance.”

And County Coun. Paul White, who awarded almost £1,000 for the venture from his Local Members Grant, added: ““I was delighted to support this great Academy.

“The Summer Camp will not only get the young people of East Lancashire out in the summer, learning a sport and keeping healthy, but it will get people involved in the sport on a longer term basis, and will also help parents with childcare during the summer holidays.”
