Pendle MP Andrew Stephenson has again been re-adopted as his borough’s Conservative parliamentary candidate for when the General Election takes place in 2015.

Last Friday, the executive committee of Pendle Conservative Association again adopted Pendle’s current Member of Parliament as their candidate for the forthcoming election.

In the last one in May, 2010, Mr Stephenson won the Pendle constituency with 17,512 votes, defeating Labour’s Gordon Prentice by a majority of 3,585 votes. Before his election Mr Stephenson, who lives in Colne, worked as a self-employed insurance broker, running a small business in Manchester.

Speaking from his office in Nelson, Mr Stephenson said: “It has been a tremendous privilege to serve our area for the past three years. Even though the next General Election is two years away, I am delighted to have been re-adopted so early by local Conservative activists.

“I am proud of much of the additional investment I have secured for our area, but especially of having been able to work with inspiring people like John and Penny Clough MBE and play my own small part in helping the successful Justice for Jane campaign.

“Pendle is a great place to live and I hope that, with the support of local people, I will be able to continue championing our area for many years to come.”

The leader of Pendle Council, Coun. Joe Cooney, said: “I’m delighted Andrew has been re-adopted as the Conservative Parliamentary Candidate.

“Since becoming council leader, I’ve seen first-hand the work Andrew does championing our area.

“Andrew has been instrumental in assisting Pendle Council to secure additional funding. He brought the Prime Minister here in April and just last week helped secure £5 million of funding which will create hundreds of skilled jobs.”

The General Election is scheduled to be on May 7th with other parties involved.
