Pendle has been praised for pulling together and raising over £2,000 to help a little boy who is fighting an aggressive childhood cancer.

Over the weekend, a successful seven-hour event was held at the Colne Muni in support of Sam Shaw (4) who was diagnosed with high risk neuroblastoma in January.

“Sam Shaw’s Big Day Out” was jam-packed with activities for all the family, including party games for the children, and live entertainment from acts such as The Crash and The Gin Pit. Firefighters Ian McGee, Wendy Huntriss, Andy Pickard, Paul Clamp, Tom Brown and Richard Taylor also brought two fire engines along to the fund-raising bash. And there were a selection of stalls, selling everything from ice cream to jewellery.

Coun. Neil Butterworth said: “There was non-stop music for seven hours, and everybody was so happy.

“I wanted to highlight neuroblastoma, raise money for a little boy, and unite everybody together.

“On my Facebook the next morning I just said that I am so proud to live in Colne. It really is a beautiful town to live in.”
