Nelson suffered two defeats at the weekend against Hyndburn opposition.
The locals had an off-day on Saturday when Church came visiting and they finished with no points to show for their efforts. Church won the toss and put Nelson in to bat which was a surprise - although it paid dividends later.
Nelson, by the halfway stage, had mustered only 59 runs for the loss of Max Howells (0) and Lewis Bradley (4) .
Tyler McGladdery scored an 83-ball 30 in a partnership with Ryan Canning worth 53, but there were no further significant stands.
Canning, celebrating signing a contract to return as Nelson professional in 2014, reached 500 runs for the season when his seventh four took him to 40. He managed two more boundaries but was caught at mid-off for 62 to make the score 128-6.
Russell Bradley hit 23, but the only other batsman to reach double figures was Sean Lemon with 13. At the end of the overs, Nelson were 167-9.
Church were 122-3 after 25 overs, despite losing professional Kasun Bodisha for 7 and Levi Wolfenden for 9; both to Richard Meade.
Lloyd Aspin, together with brother, Harvey, put on 6, before Harvey (31) skied a catch to wicketkeeper Russell Bradley. Lloyd went on to make 62 before being bowled by Howells. Craig Fergusson (27) and Sam Holt (17) saw Church home as they won by six wickets with 12 overs to spare.
Nelson visited leaders Accrington on Sunday and were completely outplayed. Winning the toss and electing to take first knock, Nelson were soon in trouble. Openers McGladdery (0) and Howells (4), were dismissed in the first four overs and when Canning was out for six, the writing was on the wall. Nelson were 11-3 from nine overs.
Neil Thompson and Lemon tried to turn things around but the latter got an appalling umpire decision when he was given run out for three when comfortably home. Thompson made 18 before he was fifth man out at 53.
The Bradley brothers staged a rescue act, putting on the best stand of the inning. They added 38 before Lewis was lbw to Accrington pro Ashar Zaidi, for 15. Harrison Phelan batted well for 13 but when he was caught and bowled by veteran David Ormerod, Nelson’s innings totally collapsed.
Russell Bradley, who produced the best performance of the innings, became another victim of Zaidi after making 45, and Nelson went from 114-6 to 118 all out.
Accrington lost Marley Ali (3) early on but raced to victory with ease. Graeme Sneddon and Zaidi had 50 on the board within ten overs. Nelson conceding 33 wides, while Sneddon (35) and Zaidi (48) reached their target inside 19 overs!
Nelson have a chance of revenge with a visit to Church today, while Accrington are the visitors on Sunday.
