Stunning views of Lake Burwain and the Yorkshire Dales can be seen from a new lectern in Alkincoates Woodland Nature Reserve.

Having been raised as an idea by Alkincoates Woodland Nature Reserve Group volunteers a couple of years ago, the feature has now been made possible thanks to funding from Colne Town Council.

An unveiling ceremony for the feature, which includes pictures and information on the area, the reserve group and the Burwain Sailing Club, has now officially taken place above the Red Lane entrance to the reserve.

Chair of Alkincoates Woodland Nature Reserve Group Carol Riley said: “I am glad that this has come to fruition.

“The ceremony went very well — we couldn’t have asked for a better day.

“The lectern is in one of our beauty spots in Colne, and it is well used.

“It is worth mentioning as a tourist attraction.”

Members of Alkincoates Woodland Nature Reserve Group would also like to thank Andy Ford for providing the photograph, Stuart Raith for the art work, Michael Osborn for naming the peaks, Lee Johnson for help with printing and the Environmental Action Group for building the lectern and mounting the view. Coun. David Clegg, who sits on both the town council and the Colne and District committee, said: “Alkincoates Woodland Nature Reserve Group have been doing such a good job up there, that it would have been ludicrous to not let them have the money.

“With the amount of resources that the nature reserve gets, it is a miracle what they are doing.”
