Hard work and dedication has paid off for one Pendle company — as it took home a first prize gong at a national awards ceremony.
Penyard Ltd, which is based in Skipton Road, Trawden, won the Heritage Project of the Year category in this year’s prestigious National Federation of Builders’ (NFB) Annual Awards.
The business, which has previously been located in Barrowford and Colne, impressed judges with their transformation of a 15th Century Worsley building into a beautiful timber framed cottage. Staff also proved their ability to establish accurate costs and stick to them throughout the project.
Kempnough Hall had been unoccupied for three years and over that time it had become “dilapidated”, with poorly built extensions, an overgrown garden and rotting frames.
Penyard Ltd demolished the substandard structures, making the listed building meet with modern standards while also ensuring that traditional features were maintained.
During their work, an original inglenook fireplace was also unveiled.
Penyard Ltd’s managing director Jeff Stott (64), who lives in Salterforth and who set up the business back in 1981, said: “I feel that a considerable amount of commitment and a passion for preserving this type of building is needed when embarking on a project of this nature as we have a duty to look after our heritage for future generations.
“I hope that our presentation confirmed the commitment given by all who worked on the project and the pleasure we received from it.”
Mr Stott went on to add that this is the first time Penyard Ltd have entered a competition for their work.
He and his team were invited to collect their prize at a prestigious gala luncheon event at the Grand Connaught Rooms in central London.
The awards, which celebrate some of the best talent in the construction industry, was hosted by NFB chief executive Julia Evans, and saw more than 180 members and guests in attendance.
There were 12 national winners and seven highly commended finalists collect their awards.
Talking at the ceremony, Ms Evans said: “The entries this year have been marvellous.
“To everyone who has entered, thank you, and to our shortlisted members, very well done for getting this far.”
