Minor disruption expected at Ball Grove Park

Minor disruption is expected at Ball Grove Park for the next two months while The Ribble Rivers Trust work on attracting more wildlife to Pendle.

Construction work on three weirs will be taking place to help fish make their way to nursery streams above the town. It will be carried out by Bailey Construction (NW) Ltd, who have undertaken a series of similar jobs across the Ribble Catchment.

By increasing the number of fish in Colne Water, such that other animals feed on them, it is also hoped wildlife such as kingfishers and otters will be attracted to the area.

Director of The Ribble Rivers Trust Jack Spees said: “Although the construction work might cause some minor disruption in the short term, the long term benefits of the work to the environment will be substantial.”

The work in Ball Grove Park is part of the trust’s three-year project to restore rivers and streams in the Colne Water catchment.

It is funded by Defra’s Catchment Restoration Fund, and is expected to start on Monday.
