This is the moment that a Colne man who suffers from an inherited muscle-wasting disease was handed his independence.
Thanks to the efforts of his carer Deborah Robinson, Union Exchange landlady Maggie Owens, and the local community, Christopher ‘Sharpy’ Sharpe was able to pick up a mobility scooter on Friday from Multicare, in Colne.
“Sharpy’s Scooter Fund” was set up last month to help make “Sharpy’s life a bit better.”
And following numerous collections and a family fun party, a total of £3,400 was reached. With the money – £1,400 of which was donated by Asda – Sharpy was also able to be treated to an electric chair and a non-slip floor for his Fern Street house.
Maggie said: “When Sharpy arrived to get the scooter, he couldn’t get on it fast enough.
“He said ‘I’ve got my legs back’.
“I would like to thank everybody that got involved.”
