West Craven Turbines Ladies had a tough test as they went down 78-11 to reigning Manchester Area Basketball League champions Holy Cross Angels, who fielded their Bury Blue Devils EBL side.
Holy Cross managed to make some quality passes and distribute ball to the open play, creating some easy scores, whereas the Turbines turned the ball over in the half court, and although they were creating some very good shooting opportunities, they were unable to find the hoop.
In the second half, with Holy Cross with a big lead, there was a call from coach Ireton increase the number of rebounds. A better third quarter saw Kilbride, Starkie and Pickles all on the score sheet.
In what was a tough opening night for the Turbines, the ladies performed much better than the final score suggests.
Pickles gave a very impressive performance and was the team’s MVP.
An honorable mention should be given to Rowlands who once again put in a very strong, reliable performance with a good understanding of the game.
Turbines face their longest road trip of the season tonight against MMU Cheshire.
