Thatch and Thistle completed the Colne Summer Pool Leagur Premier Division and Team Knockout Final double recently.
At Colne Legion, Thatch took on First Division Alex C. The first doubles saw Thatch’s John Ratcliffe and Mark Tomlinson up against David Jackson and Dave Middleton.
After a lot of safety play, Ratcliffe cleared up to put Thatch ahead.
The second frame saw Gaz Christopher and Pete Stewart of Alex take on Peter Roach and Andy Bates in quite a tactical frame, which the Thatch eventually won.
In the first singles, Maurice McCarthy of the Thatch took on Christopher. Christopher produced two great shots to get onto the black, but couldn’t pot it. McCarthy wasted no time in clearing up to take the third frame.
In the second singles, Ian Hill of Alex produced some superb shots and safety play against Mark Tomlinson, but it wasn’t enough as Tomlinson went on to win the frame for a 4-0 success.
Meanwhile, the Ken Ashworth Memorial Cup Final was held at the Alex Snooker Club between First Division Brierfield Liberal A and Premier Division Queens.
In the first doubles, Paul Andrews and Brian Shaw (Queens) took on Peter Holt and Martin Daniels in a long, tactical frame, which the Queens pair eventually won.
The second doubles consisted of John Singleton and John Holt (Liberal) playing Mick Devine and Micky Uprichard.
This was another tactical frame, which the Queens won to lead 2-0.
The first singles saw Uprichard up against Andrew Moss.
Uprichard missed a couple of chances to take the frame and Moss went on to win.
The second singles was between John Singleton (Liberal) and Kev Ellerton.
Singleton won that one to level the scores at 2-2.
Next up was Paul Andrews (Queens) and Martin Daniels, with Andrews winning that frame to give Queens the lead again.
The fourth frame saw Craig Dawber (Liberal) account for Mick Devine to take the match to the deciding frame.
The final frame was between the captains John Holt (Liberal) and Brian Shaw.
Shaw broke off and attempted an eight-ball clearance, but just missed potting the black. Holt twice tried to leave Shaw snookered, and the second time, Shaw produced a brilliant shot to pot the black and give Queens the match.
