DEVELOPERS have revealed a second supermarket application in Barnoldswick will be for an Aldi store.
Pendle Projects Ltd will submit its application for the food store next week, which includes a car park with 71 spaces. The plan covers a site totalling 15,000 sq. ft. of the former Gas Works Yard off Skipton Road, with 10,000 sq. ft. of sales space.
Managing director Mark Taylforth said: “We think our plan is the right scale for the area and Aldi would be a good occupier for the town. I believe there is a demand for another food store and that this would not adversely impact the town centre.
“Next to nothing of the stock will be non-food produce. It will be a store where you can do enough of a weekly shop to finish with a few bits in the centre, so there will be that link. The problem with a big superstore is you can get absolutely everything in one go and don’t need to go anywhere else.”
