Colne ASC have enjoyed a busy time of late.
The Masters swimmers travelled to the Palatine Leisure Centre in Blackpool for the ASA North West Region Distance Meet, while the nine to 12-year-olds travelled to the Ribblesdale Pool in Clitheroe for the first fixture in this year’s Micro League.
There were four members of the Masters team in Blackpool, with John Penswick swimming in the 70 to 74 years age group, and Karen Driver, Stephen Smith and Philip Croxall swimming in the 40 to 44 years age group.
New for this year was an overall winner using an age adjusted time to determine the winner.
Karen was in fine form as she won the 1,500m Freestyle and 800m Freestyle events, with the 1,500m in a new personal best time.
She was also the overall women’s 1,500m champion and was second in the 800m.
Philip finished first in the 800m Freestyle and fourth in the 400m Freestyle events.
This gave him an overall position of seventh in the 800m and eighth in the 400m.
Stephen finished second in the 800m Freestyle and third in the 400m Freestyle for an overall position of sixth in the 400m and ninth in the 800m.
John finished third in the 1,00m Freestyle, which gave him an overall position of 21st.
Then the youngster put in a fantastic team performance as they finished second in Clitheroe with 133 points behind Wigan, who won with 147 points.
This left Blackpool third on 108 points, and the hosts Clitheroe in fourth place with 88 points.
During the course of the evening, the young Colne swimmers won 12 of the 49 events with a further 17 second places, with quite a few of the swimmers setting new personal best times, all while being cheered on by their enthusiastic parents.
Hopefully, after such a great start, Colne can this year push for promotion in what is their Centenary year.
The next Micro League fixture is on Sunday, April 29th at the West View Pool in Preston.
