Colne have no answer to Medics

Colne played host to runaway league leaders Manchester Medics at Holt House last Saturday.

With Colne being the team to end their unbeaten run earlier on in the season, the Medics were looking to avoid another defeat and increase their lead at the top.

Colne knew from the kick-off that this was a different team than the one they played previously, as the Medics attacked the Colne defence with some great moves from the Manchester outfit’s back line.

Colne did well and absorbed the pressure for a while, but it was only a matter of time until the Medics had men out wide and Colne suffered the consequences.

Colne had the much more dominant pack and controlled the scrums and set pieces well, but an injury to Dan Sutcliffe left Colne having to regroup and change a few tactics just 15 minutes in. In the second half the All Blacks were looking for points and started to use the forwards to pressurise the Medics defence, and with Colne starting to camp in the visitors’ half of the field for much of the second half, the Medics had to pull out all the stops to prevent Colne from breaking that defensive line.

But the visitors held their shape and managed to clear their lines at the first opportunity.

It was a shame Colne couldn’t turn the pressure into points, but were fairly beaten by a better team, a team which have only lost three games all season,

FINAL SCORE: Colne and Nelson 0, Manchester Medics 41
