A MOTION thanking Coun. Mike Blomeley for his work as Leader of Pendle Council has been passed unanimously.
The motion, moved by Coun. Tony Beckett in Coun. Pauline McCormick’s absence at a meeting of Pendle Council, said Coun. Blomeley had “undertaken his role with understated perseverance, dedication and skill.”
It added he had led Pendle Council “through an extremely difficult period” and had done this “with a high level of professionalism.”
Coun. Mohammed Iqbal added his appreciation from the council’s Labour group, saying he had enjoyed working with Coun. Blomeley, describing him as a “left-wing Tory”, while Coun. John David as head of the Liberal Democrat group thanked him for his efforts and wished him luck in the future.
At Pendle Council’s Brierfield and Reedley meeting on Tuesday, Coun. Naeem Ashraf said he had been “totally gobsmacked” when he heard Coun. Blomeley was stepping down but said he had enjoyed the political “tussles” with him and thanked him for his “hard work in Brierfield, Reedley and Pendle as a whole.”
Coun. Nawaz Ahmed, chairman of the committee, said: “I will miss his constructive debates. I would like to wish him all the best in future.”
