Barnoldswick will feature in the science programme, “Bang Goes The Theory” on television this evening.

The BBC’s team is investigating how living with wireless signals affects us and 26 years after he first reported on the issue for “Tomorrow’s World”, Howard Stableford is seen in the town investigating the possible health risks.

The crew filmed in Barnoldswick Town Square and surrounding streets during February and local councillor David Whipp was interviewed about wi-fi in Barnoldswick.

Coun. Whipp said: “The BBC team were hugely impressed; the bustling traditional town centre and quirky details should make a good backdrop for their piece.

“The crew visited the week we launched the Visit Barnoldswick website, when we used wi-fi from local shops to connect to the internet on the Town Square. Hopefully, plenty of folk will want to visit Barnoldswick after the programme.

“Howard originally came from around these parts and his first job was with Radio Blackburn 30 years ago. At dinner time, he was determined to have a Holland’s pie, so the whole crew enjoyed a meal at a local chippy.”

The programme starts at 7-30 p.m. on BBC1.
