PENDLE councillors claimed more than £171,000 in allowances in the year to March 31st, figures reveal.
The figures for the 56 councillors involved - some of who either stood down or were defeated at the elections last May - are made up of £143,927.34 in basic allowances and £27,860.84 in special responsibilty allowances.
Thirty-nine councillors claimed the full £3,000 allowance, while 20 members were entitled to claim special responsibilities.
Only one member - Liberal Democrat Coun. John David - did not claim any allowances.
