DOZENS of people attended the funeral of Mr Lloyd Carradice, the popular and highly-respected former borough treasurer of Nelson and Pendle borough councils.

Mr Carrdice (89), of Halifax Road, Nelson, was also honorary treasurer of Colne Golf Club, and had also been captain there.

He was a keen and skilled photographer, helping to create a Pendle Council calendar featuring local scenes. One of his photos was placed on the front of his funeral programme. It took place at Burnley Crematorium on Friday.

There were lots of people from Colne Golf Club, Pendle Council and other organisations as well as family and friends.

Past and present councillors and workers included current chief executive Mr Stephen Barnes, former chief Mr Colin Simmonds, Mr Carradice’s successor as borough treasurer, Mr Roy Beale, and Pendle councillor Lord (Tony) Greaves.

Mr Carradice’s daughter, teacher Anne Edwards, paid tribute to her father during the funeral. She said: “Dad was ‘Mr Pendle’ through his work.” And she said: “Dad firmly believed in working in common good,” but added: “He was, to me, simply my dad.”

Mr Carradice had been a successful cricketer with Nelson Grammar School Old Boys.

After the service in celebration and memory of Mr Carradice, there was a commemorative event at Colne Golf Club.
