PENDLE Forest Hockey Club started their summer league campaign with two victories and a draw last Wednesday.

After five weeks off, Forest started the first game slowly and Timperley A found themselves in complete control of the game.

Timperley dominated possession but could find no way through the defence, with Janet Mitchell-Stanworth snuffing out all attacks.

With five minutes remaining, Mitchell-Stanworth sent a ball from defence straight to attack, and Judith Hind slipped the ball through the goalkeeper’s legs to win the game 1-0.

Forest were straight back on against Sale B.

Forest started to pass the ball around and dominate posession.

They took the lead when Dani Atherton dribbled into the D without being challenged and struck the ball into the bottom corner.

Sale threatened a couple of times but couldn’t finish any of their attacks.

Laura Kendall in the Forest goal made an outstanding save to tip a ball over the crossbar to keep Forest in the lead.

They finished the game off when Mitchell-Stanworth struck a ball goalbound from a short corner for Hind to touch the ball in to beat Sale 2 -0.

In their last game of the evening, Forest played Didsbury Greys.

The game was fairly even, with both sides having chances.

Millie Stansfield struck a ball across goal for Fiona Head to put the ball in the back of the net, but it was disallowed for being dangerous.

Forest had the majority of the posession but couldn’t finish off any of their attacks and the game finished 0-0.

Pendle Forest would like to thank Robert Hornby of Balfour Beatty for sponsoring the club with their new water bottles.
