CLARETS legend Andy Payton launched his book ‘Living The Dream’ at a special charity night recently.

The book was written by Gavin Roper, who also organised the festive fundraiser at The Usha, Rossendale Road, for Alzheimer’s Society and Nelson Manor Care Home.

Guests enjoyed a curry, accompanied by entertainment from comedian Mike Farrell, and a special guest appearance from Payton.

MC John Riding made the evening run smoothly and did an excellent job in holding a question and answer session with the Padiham Predator about his career and book.

Over £700 was raised on the night, and Roper said: “I really enjoyed organising the event and writing Andy’s book, and with over 100 attending it was a great way to raise funds for such a worthwhile cause.

“I had some great support from people such as Nick Davies and Toni Wilson who worked for free on the evening, meeting and greeting the guests, and Opus who allowed us to use the PA system free.

“And as always the food at Usha made it extra special. The evening went like clockwork as JR held the evening together and Mike had us all in stiches.”

Stephen Hughes, Alzheimer’s Society’s East Lancashire Support Services Manager, said: “We are extremely grateful to Gavin. As a charity, we rely on the generosity of individuals like Gavin to help us support people to live well with dementia today and fund research to find a cure for tomorrow.”

Roper is also taking up the challenge of completing the Everest Base Camp next year in aid of Alzheimer’s Society and Nelson Manor Care Home.

Alzheimer’s Society has a fantastic range of events both in the UK and abroad.
