A proud Colne dad is hopeful of making a career out of his vivid imagination after his debut novel was scooped up by a top publishing company.

Peter Shaw wrote Little Ronnie and Magic the Horse for his three-year-old daughter Jessica 18 months ago.

Having been picked up by Top That! Publishing, the 750-word children’s book has featured at markets in the UK, Europe, United States and Australia. It is also currently on display at the Bologna Children’s Book Fair and is due to appear at the London Book Fair later this year.

Mr Shaw, an assistant store manager at Aldi, is now planning on writing a sequel, and has expressed his delight at being accepted into the tough industry.

The 27-year-old, of Elm Street, said: “I was quite shocked to get published, as the children’s market is really saturated.

“It does seem like a realistic option now that I have got my foot in the door.”

Mr Shaw is in the process of organising book signings, and is currently in talks over holding an event at The Bookshop, in Colne.

Little Ronnie and Magic the Horse is illustrated by Daniel Howarth. For more information visit the book’s Facebook page.
