The weather was typically chilly and damp at Bacup for Nelson’s Lancashire League opener on Sunday.
The start was delayed by a hour, but Nelson won the toss and asked Bacup to take first knock.
Richard Meade and Max Howells opened the bowling, and Howells was the first to strike, bowling Matt Collinge (1) with a ball that straightened from leg. Howells then had Henry Butcher caught by Harrison Phelan off a skyer for a duck. A partnership of 33 from stand-in pro Geeth Kumara and Andrew Spencer was eventually broken by Meade, who bowled Spencer for 24 and then had Kumara smartly caught behind for 18.
A couple of wayward overs from new professional Ryan Canning cost 22 runs, but Phelan bowled Adam Highley in his first over, putting Bacup on 66 -5 from 15 overs. However, prolonged rain and drizzle prevented any further play.
