After 10 games without defeat, Colne lost their final three games of the season over the week.
But there is much encouragement for the Reds ahead of next season after an eight-place finish in the North West Counties Premier Division.
On Tuesday night, Colne played their third game in six days at Prescot against an in-form AFC Liverpool.
The Reds went a goal down inside the first minute as Liverpool were given too much space down the right and Jack Sinnott worked the ball into the six-yard box where Daniel Hand slotted confidently past keeper Chris Thompson.
Colne equalised on 24 minutes when Luke McVarish’s deep free kick was headed into the danger area by Krystian Evans, where Jimmy Crorken hit a low shot into the net.
But they were level for only two minutes as a corner was swung to the back post, where full back Anthony Brown climbed above the defence to head into the far corner.
Liverpool extended their lead on 54 minutes when the ball was worked into the area and Ronnie Morgan found the corner of the net.
Colne gained a lifeline on 86 minutes when a rare attack resulted in corner. Crorken swung the ball in and Mark Coyne bulleted a header into the top corner, but Liverpool claimed a 3-2 win.
The Reds also went down 3-2 at Winsford United on Saturday. On 23 minutes Colne opened the scoring after Ed O’Neill and Dominic Craig combined to play in Lee Barrett, who cut inside and then fired into the corner.
Four minutes later Winsford were level when James Blair drilled a cross into the area and Thompson parried the ball onto the back of one of his own players and in.
Five minutes later Colne took the lead again after a good move between Barrett and Craig released Jason Hart through the middle and he rifled into the far corner.
But just before the break Winsford drew level again when Adam Foy’s header from a corner was deflected into the roof of the net
Five minutes into the second half, Callam Gardner volleyed what proved to be the winner.
Last Thursday, Colne played their final home fixture against AFC Liverpool.
Against the run of play on 12 minutes Liverpool were awarded a penalty when Shaun Harris was brought down just inside the area and John Lawless fired home.
After half an hour Liverpool increased their lead when Ronnie Morgan fired home, and just before half time it was 3-0 as Lawless curled a free kick into the top corner.
