Child care, health and social care and IT students at Nelson and Colne College Sixth Form have taken part in an inspirational lecture with guest speaker and journalist Andrew Lindsay.
The college is committed to ensuring that each and every student aims high and achieves their goals. As well as a strong focus on hard work and dedication, students are invited to meet with guest speakers whose stories can help to further inspire and motivate them with their studies.
Andrew Lindsay is a reporter with BBC Sport and he visited the students to give them an insight into his career and the sorts of vacancies available within the BBC.
His own story, of how he got to where he is today, also served to inspire the students about how a young person from East Lancashire can go on to a great career within a well-known organisation.
During his talk, Andrew highlighted the need for young people to achieve really strong communications skills and talked about how the BBC, as a large organisation, has a multitude of career opportunities – not just in broadcasting, but also a host of jobs behind the scenes.
Andrew also gave the students details of his career and talked about his personal career path, from starting at the Rossendale Free Press after completing his degree, right up to starting with BBC Sport in 2012 ahead of the European Football Champinships and the London Olympic Games.
IT tutor Michael Cruise said: “We are grateful to Andrew for agreeing to come and speak with our students. As a college, we want to highlight as many different career paths as possible to our students so that they go out into the world of work feeling prepared.”
