A local Masters swimmer has stepped out of her comfort zones to raise funds for a charity close to her heart.
On Sunday, Karen Driver, of Hill Street, swopped her goggles for trainers to take part in the Greater Manchester Marathon.
The Colne Amateur Swimming Club member was fund-raising for Rosemere Cancer Foundation, since her mum, Joan, is currently fighting mouth cancer, and her dad, Ken, is also a former cancer patient.
Her mum was given the devastating diagnosis in October 2012.
Karen also lost two close friends to the disease at a young age.
The 41-year-old said: “The care and treatment mum has received at Rosemere was second to none, and running this marathon was my way of saying a massive thank you from me and my family, as they do such a fabulous job.”
And Dan Hill, area fund-raising coordinator for East Lancashire at the Rosemere Cancer Foundation, added: “We’d like to say a huge thank you to Karen for choosing to support us while taking part in her first ever marathon.”
