Nelson beat Enfield by three runs in a thriller at Seedhill on Saturday.
The hosts won the toss and elected to bat, and Lewis Bradley and Tyler McGladdery made a decent start, but both fell with the score on 28.
That brought professional Ryan Canning and David Crotty together and they put on 61 for the third wicket - Canning bowled by David Bracewell for 30 - and Crotty soon followed for 28, out to a very dubious lbw decision. Neil Thompson and Max Howells put on 53 for the fifth wicket when Thompson, on 25, glanced one wide of the wicketkeeper, who made a fantastic diving catch.
Howells, with some strong and powerful strokes, made 38,before he was caught at mid-off.
Enfield took four wickets in the final two overs and Nelson had to be satisfied with 178-9 in the end.
Richard Meade opened Nelson’s attack and clean bowled Chris Maudsley in the first over. Max Howells at the other end also had immediate success. He had Sagawat Hussain caught in the covers by Canning for five. Jones (7)was then trapped by Howells at 2-3.
Enfield professional Brad Moses (32) threatened to turn the match but a big hit to the square leg boundary saw Tom Bradshaw complete a fabulous catch, and when Adam Bracewell was neatly pouched by McGladdery at mid-on, Enfield were in trouble at 58-5.
Hassan Fazal and Joe Wrigley held Nelson at bay for 20 overs as they put on 76, but Thompson returned and immediately had Fazal caught by Crotty in the deep for 35. Thompson also accounted for Wrigley in his next over for another 35.
Lewis Wright was run out cheaply but Zahir Afzal and David Bracewell continued to take the fight to Nelson. Afzal was lbw to Meade with 16 runs still required and 23 balls remaining. However, with 14 balls left, Bracewell lofted Thompson straight over his head and Lewis Bradley made a splendid running catch at long-off to win the game.
