Pendle Council has made Coun. Smith Benson its new mayor. He has been a Conservative for scores of years.
He was welcomed to his new role at the Mayor-making Ceremony at Nelson Town Hall last night.
His daughter Mrs Margaret Ingham is the Mayoress. On our film footage you can here the Mayor’s grandchild louder than him! And a new Deputy Mayor and Mayoress were also appointed - Coun. Graham Roach and Mrs Joanne Sagar.
