A determined Colne student has battled all the elements to raise as much money as possible for Pendleside Hospice.
James Wilkinson (15), a student at Park High School, took on the 134-mile Coast to Coast challenge as part of his Duke of Edinburgh’s Award in March.
Despite a number of obstacles, including a snapped bike chain just three miles into the journey, and a heavy covering of snow on his second day of cycling, James managed to complete the journey from Whitehaven to Sunderland Harbour and raise £666.50 for charity.
The teenager, who completed the trek with his step-dad Andy Kay, said: “I found the bike ride a great challenge, although it didn’t come without work.
“The worst part was the weather but it was typical for Britain.
“However, this ride couldn’t have been completed without my amazing mum and step-dad, thank you.”
