A lobby group who are trying to save Pendle Leisure Centre’s sauna from shutting down have continued their debate with councillors.
Fronted by campaigner Manzar Iqbal, a meeting has been held at Multicare, in North Valley Road, ahead of a meeting of Pendle Council’s Executive tomorrow night.
The event was organised to spark discussions between protestors and councillors after the Crown Way facility was axed at the last Pendle Council budget meeting by every political party.
According to Mr Iqbal, campaigners voiced their concerns over additional costs, including entrance fees and petrol, if members were forced to use Pendle Wavelengths’ facilities, in Nelson.
Among other talks, it was also suggested that users of the Colne sauna “meet Pendle Leisure Trust and Pendle Council half way” by raising money themselves.
Mr Iqbal added: “I would like to thank everybody for their attendance.
“It gave us an opportunity to put across our information, and talk a little bit about a future business plan where members can work with Pendle Leisure Trust and Pendle Council to keep a really really important resource open. Many people use this facility for health reasons.”
And leader of Pendle Council Coun. Joe. Cooney added: “We did meet a group of campaigners to listen to their concerns about the closure. They raised some points which we need to look at and the matter will be discussed at the next executive meeting.”
