A successful party complete with cupcakes and wine has been held in Colne to celebrate the second birthday of a popular dress agency.
Plenty of people turned out to help The Dressing Room’s owner Ruth Crompton (46) mark the milestone date.
The former florist, who is currently in training for the Bupa Great Manchester Run, said: “The party went really well — we were very very busy, which was fantastic.
“We had a raffle and offers on the day, and we had people bringing in plants and cards.”
The Dressing Room, in Albert Road, was set up by Ruth when her little boy Conrad was just four-months-old.
Having spent time as a florist and a college lecturer, Ruth was persuaded to pursue her interest in fashion thanks to a “lightbulb moment” from her husband.
Ruth, of Colne Road, Trawden, added: “I thought I would like to set up my own business, and there are already plenty of florists in the area.
“I was clearing out my clothes, and I said to my husband ‘I have got so many, I could set up a shop’. That is when my husband had a lightbulb moment.
“I had a lot of support from the council, and I was given a grant to improve and extend last year.”
Ruth, who is aiming to host a fashion show next year, has thoroughly enjoyed her time in Colne to date, and truly believes that it is a place where independent businesses can flourish.
She said: “Colne is a good place to be. It is very very friendly, and my neighbours are fantastic.
“The high street in Colne is really up and coming, and has got some fabulous shops.
“I have some very loyal customers.”
