A former Barnoldswick man is returning to the UK from Greece to promote his new children’s book.
David Hartley (46), who now lives in Crete, was a funeral director at Windles before he changed career to become an author to realise a lifetime ambition.
David will be signing copies of the new book “Sunset Chasers” at Loose Women panel member Colleen Nolan’s Wild West Charity function at Old Trafford Cricket Ground tomorrow which is in aid of Sara’s Hope Foundation.
Ten per cent of the profits from sales of “Sunset Chasers” will go to the foundation which has a retreat in Crete for families of children suffering with cancer, the disease which sadly took the life of Sara Hoburn (14) in 2001.
Tomorrow he will also be signing books from 10am to noon at the Cellar Bar and Bistro in Barnoldswick.
And on Monday, David will be in Newcastle for another signing, which is where Sara’s family is from.
David said: “I’m very excited about returning to do the book signing, it is always good to return to your home town.
“Everyone who has seen the new book have said the book has such a feel good factor about and it is a return to a good old style children’s book with beautiful colourful illustrations and a positive message for life.”
David has written two other children’s books “The Fairy Hunter” and “Mary’s Fairy Dress” as well as an adult fiction book “Prince of Lilies” of which BBC Radio 2’s Chris Evans and Harry Potter actor Daniel Radcliffe are both fans.
David added: “Every time you write a book you believe it is going to do well. Having written other books, Sunset Chasers, to me, has everything to make it big time given the right exposure and backing.
“I switched from being a funeral director because I dealt with so many people who never managed to fulfil their dreams in life because of accident or illness.
“I loved my job and I was upset to leave it because of all the amazing families I had the pleasure to meet and help.
“But I had dreams to fulfil myself and I wanted to do them while I had the chance.”
