Colne’s Worsley Cup dreams were dashed by a brilliant 125 from professional Brenton Parchment as Haslingden earned a semi-final tie with Nelson.

The West Indian steered Haslingden to a 111-run win at Bentgate on Saturday as he smashed 14 fours and seven sixes in a 114-ball innings.

After losing skipper Graham Knowles for four at nine, bowled by David Wallbank, Parchment and Matt Grifffin (30) shared 100 for the second wicket.

Burnley centre back Alex Coleman (29), Jack Taylor (19 not out) and Lee Ingham (13) also made double figures as Haslingden closed on 261-7.

Colne professional Shadley van Schalkwyk was the pick of the bowlers with 3-35 in his 10 overs.

However, van Schalkwyk couldn’t match Parchment’s heroics with the bat as he fell for just four in reply - one of Jack Sudworth’s haul of 3-48.

Jordan Shannon also claimed 3-42 as Colne were dismissed for 150, the innings coming to an end when Knowles bowled Reece Whitehead, who made 20 in his first senior innings.

Lewis Rimmer top-scored with 26, while captain Matt Walker contributed 16 and Alex White 14.

Haslingden conceded 33 extras.

The following day, Colne went in search of their first league win at Todmorden, but instead slumped to the bottom of the table after an eight-wicket defeat at Centre Vale.

Home professional Geeth Alwis took 5-43 as Colne were bowled out for 174.

Van Schalkwyk hit 51, with support from Khurrum Nazir (26), Brad Ramshead (22), Walker (14) and Ammad Akram (14).

In reply, opener Simon Newbitt hit an unbeaten 90, after putting on 92 for the first wicket with Ben Sutcliffe (24), and 55 with professional Alwis (26).

Van Schalkwyk and Joel Duerden took the only wickets to fall.

On Friday night, however, Colne picked up a second win in two games in the Twenty20, beating Burnley by two runs at The Horsfield.

Colne made 143-5 as van Shalkwyke smashed 71 from 48 balls, Alex White added 27 not out, and Ramshead 20.

Burnley captain Bharat Tripathi (22), Cole Hayman (22 not out) and Steve Brunt (17) took the visitors to the brink of victory, but Colne held on.

Colne host Haslingden in the league on Sunday looking to avenge their Worsley Cup defeat, after tonight’s trip to Lowerhouse in the Twenty20 competition.
