Staff and pupils at a Colne primary school are gearing up for two key events over the next couple of weeks.

This weekend, Mr John Robertshaw, the headteacher at Sacred Heart Primary School, in Red Lane, will be taking on a mammoth 69-mile run along Hadrian’s Wall to raise funds for Dementia UK —a charity which supports his mum and is committed to improving the quality of life for all people affected by dementia.

And the following week, guests are set to enjoy the school’s summer fair, which this year has a World War Two theme. Attractions at the event, which will run between 11am and 3pm, will include a talent show, a treasure hunt, a barbecue, and a baking competition.

Talking about his upcoming challenge, which he aims to complete in two days, Mr Robertshaw (34) said: “I’d like to thank everybody who has already shown me a tremendous amount of support and given so generously. It has really helped spur me on during some of my long training runs.

“Dementia UK is such a worthwhile cause and carries out invaluable work in our communities, while contributing significantly to vital research, which I hope will one day mean other families won’t have to experience the effects of this tragic illness.”

And talking about the summer fair, which will also include an array of traditional stalls and a visit from Sports Scool, Chair of the Friends of Sacred Heart Joanne Shackleton said: “The whole school is really excited about this year’s summer fair, which is set to be bigger and better than ever.”

For more information on both events ring the school on 864362.
