Park High School is celebrating after winning the Under 12s Basketball Lancashire Cup.

Park played St Wilfrid’s from Blackburn in the first semi-final, winning 15-13 in a close encounter. In the other semi-final Darwen Vale beat Corpus Christi from Preston by 10 points.

The final started tense. Darwen Vale saw more of the ball in the first quarter and managed to score four points with only two minutes remaining. The next basket was crucial and Park scored it to make it 4-2 at the end of the 1st.

In the second quarter Park came out firing and immediately levelled the score, only for Darwen Vale to put two more baskets past Park.  However, Park replied with two baskets from Jake Procter and an excellent solo basket from Josh McNaught to take the lead at 11-8 at the end of the half.

An excellent 3rd quarter saw Archie McDonald-Johnson score from the free throw line having been fouled on the way to the basket and Harvie Day taking the game to Darwen Vale putting two baskets and a free throw away to make the score 16-13.

An excellent defensive performance from Holly Pinder and the rest of the team in the final quarter despite continued pressure from the Darwen Vale attack saw Park run out 20-16 winners.

Jake Proctor was voted most valuable player.
