Villagers in Kelbrook and Sough have had a cause to cheer this week with the news that its hall is to receive thousands of pounds in funding.

The Big Lottery Fund has granted £3,600 to Kelbrook and Sough Village Hall’s Committee so that phase five of improvements works at the community centre can be completed.

Work on redeveloping the hall began in the middle of the last decade with the construction of an eight space car park followed by the addition of an annex to the rear of the hall and a complete redecoration of the hall’s interior with refitted kitchen and toilets.

Once this latest round of the hall’s redevelopment is complete, which will see the front of the hall get a facelift, it is hoped further funding can be secured in the next couple of years to allow the final phase of building work to be sanctioned.

The sixth stage would be the process of modernising the hall’s roof bringing a 10-year work plan to a conclusion.

During the eight years since work began, committee secretary Mary Miller believes it has brought benefits to the villages as the facility can be used for meetings, functions such as weddings and parties and indoor sports including badminton.

She said: “We’re really pleased. It will benefit hall users and make the hall much more attractive to new users.

“The improvements have meant a load more people want to use the hall.

“Local people and businesses have been very generous over the years. It makes you feel like the hard work is worthwhile.”
