A sheltered housing scheme in Colne celebrated its 21st year with a buffet, open day and special presentation.

Residents and staff at Turney Crook Mews, which is located just off Ivegate, had a fantastic time welcoming new visitors to their celebratory event.

Scheme manager Geoff Hyde said: “It was brilliant. We had quite a lot of visitors, and the event went on until tea time.

“It was really, really good, and very positive. I have been here six years and have definitely seen an improvement over the years.

“We have definitely established more links within the community.”

For one tenant, the milestone celebrations at the Anchor-managed site had particular prevalence — since she has been there since it first opened its doors.

Mrs Laura Willis (88) was presented with a bouquet during the birthday bash for her contribution to the housing scheme.

Mr Hyde added: “Mrs Willis was very emotional.

She didn’t expect anything, so she was very touched.”

Throughout the years, Turney Crook Mews has continued to be developed and improved.

The sheltered housing, which offers purpose-built properties for rent for people over the age of 55, hosts a number of frequent events, including coffee mornings, entertainment evenings, and visits from Age UK. Residents are also taken on day trips, to places such as Southport and the South Lakes.
