A Matt Wilson century helped Earby to an exciting win over Settle at the weekend.

Settle won the toss and invited Earby to take first knock, Matt Wilson and Chris Walton opening.

Wilson took the attack to the bowlers and his 50 came up off just 44 balls. Veteran Andrew Davidson came to the attack and slowed the rate down but the singles kept coming and in the 32nd over the opening partnership stood at exactly 200.

Davidson took the wicket of Walton for 62 off 90 balls but that only brought pro Rehman to the middle to join Wilson in the runfest. Wilson was eventually stumped for 140 but Rehman took his tally to an unbeaten 59 off just 45 balls leaving Settle needing 298 for victory.

Settle must have been wondering how to approach the chase, Hassan and L. Read opened and took things slowly, Hassan went in the third over though, caught off Craddock’s second over,

Mansoor Amjad was next in but when a Danny Kegg full toss loosener beat Read and bowled him, followed two overs later by Strickland and W.Davidson, Settle were in deep trouble at 85 for 5.

Amjad hit a 55-ball 50 and with 10 overs remaining the Settle side required 110 runs, Earby requiring two wickets for maximum points. Suddenly Amjad opened up, passing the hundred mark with fours and sixes flying to all parts.

Luckily for the home side though he had left his assault too late and they finished on 273 for 9 with Amjad’s personal total being an undefeated 161.
