Pendle artist David C. Lyons has been interviewed by Sky Television and will be on telly very soon.

Sky visited the Haworth Art Gallery in Accrington for the opening of a major art exhibition organised by the international society The Association of Animal Artists.

Mr Lyons, who is one of the original members of the society, was interviewed for a programme entitled “A Splash of Paint” to be broadcast on Sky’s “Painting and Drawing” channel.

The programme is on from Monday to Saturday, 5pm to 6pm, and Sunday, 2pm to 3pm.

Mr Lyons, who is chairman of Pendle Artists, talked about his involvement with the international group and how it had benefitted him in his career of painting animals.

And he made particular reference to a work entitled “The Lady and the Lamp”, a painting portraying one of his cats.

Mr Lyons said: “This is a very special painting for me, as the day I finished it little Rowan was sadly knocked down on the road. There were tears in my eyes as I spoke about it.”

He also has two other works in the exhibition – one of cows and another of stags – and the exhibition itself comprises four themed rooms showing everything from farmyard scenes to equestrian and wildlife portraits.

The exhibition is now open to the public and runs until September 15th. Entry is free.

Opening times are:
Wednesday, Thursday and Friday, noon to 4-45pm,
and Saturday and Sunday noon to 4-15pm. It is closed all day on Mondays and Tuesdays.

Mr Lyons, who lives at Whitehough near Barley, was a pupil at the old Nelson Secondary Technical School at Edge End.

He was later a teacher at Park Primary School in Colne, but after that taught both art and guitar skills at Nelson and Colne College.

He is now very much involved in art, creating some great pieces of work. His skill covers pets, farm animals, wildlife and the countryside, which have proved highly popular. He is a regular exhibitor at Pendle Artists’ annual exhibition at The ACE Centre.
