A husband and wife team who met at the annual Great British Rhythm and Blues Festival in Colne are set to release their debut single next month.

And ahead of the official launch at The Soup Kitchen, in Manchester’s Northern Quarter, pysch-folk duo Sam and Hannah Hind will be holding a free gig at the Old Stone Trough, in Kelbrook, from 7-30pm on Thursday.

The pair are better know as Bird To Beast and will be supported by singer/songwriter Megan Grooters and Teaspoon.

Widely recognised locally for their involvement with contemporary band Queen and Country, the couple have recently signed an album deal with record label MUK Records. They will release their first track “To Lips From Lungs” on September 8th, with their self-titled album coming out in October.

Ex-sheep farmer Sam (29), a former Chetham’s School of Music student, who grew up in Kelbrook, said: “We have been playing and writing music separately for years and a friend suggested we should do something together, so we did.

“‘To Lips From Lungs’ is not the most obvious of first singles but both we and the record label thought it sounded different with it being accordion lead and it has a French influence harking back to artists like Edith Piaf and Jaques Brel.

“The album was recorded in Manchester over 18 days, then mixed and mastered in Essex.

“It is all original material written in the last 12 months, aside from one track.”

Both Hannah and Sam were introduced to music early in their lives, with Hannah playing piano from seven-years-old and Sam learning to play the violin from the age of just four.

Former Nelson and Colne College student Hannah (30) went on to study at the University of Salford, and has since seen success touring as an Ellie Goulding backing singer.

She has taken part in numerous festivals and television shows, including The Jonathan Ross Show, and has even had the pleasure of performing at the wedding reception of Prince William and Kate Middleton.
