Pendle Forest and Craven Hunt Pony Club’s boys’ team finished second at the National Tetrathlon Championships at Bishop Burton College, Yorkshire at the weekend.
Eight members competed in the four phases of tetrathlon - pistol target shooting, swimming, riding over a cross-country jumping course, and running cross country - at the Area 4 Tetrathlon competition last month at Whitfield Farm, Ettington, near Stratford upon Avon, where they qualified as two teams, girls and boys, for the nationals.
It was a well-deserved achievement for Daniel Grant, William Bower, Isaac Pye, Ellie Pullin, Katy Mousdale, Natalya Irvine and Grace Jeffrey.
The championships saw 214 Pony Club members from all over the UK, including visitors from Eire, and New Zealand, compete over the three days in Intermediate and Open competitions.
It was a marvellous location with truly fantastic facilities, including a very strong, challenging and technical riding cross country course.
All of the Pendle athletes had a very successful competition, with the boys’ team - defending their title after winning the National Championship last year - achieving the place of reserve champions, coming second in the intermediate class.
The Pendle Forest and Craven Hunt branch of the pony club was founded in 1935 and attracts members from North East Lancashire as well as both North and West Yorkshire.
The club stages rallies, for both training and social opportunities, and a number of competitions.
