More than £6,000 raised by a special bike ride has been handed over to a West Craven charity.

Family and friends of Chloe Oldfield collected more than £6,000 for Bosom Friends with the 140-mile Way of the Roses coast to coast ride in her memory. The Barnoldswick teenager sadly lost her battle with cancer in February, 2010, and when her aunt Sharon Hurst inherited her bicycle, she decided to do something positive with it.

She, along with Chloe’s mum Catherine, and friends Anita Emmott, Kate Hartley and Lorna Hargreaves, completed the route from Morecambe to Bridlington in September.

Sharon said: “We are indebted and grateful to all those who sponsored us and supported us. That includes family, friends, colleagues, individuals and companies. The amount we raised is unbelievable and I would like to think that Chloe would be suitably impressed. Bosom Friends were a great support for her and her family and she was keen that they be recognised after her death. Team Chloe want to say a huge thank you to all concerned, especially to Graham Liddell and his team at Windles Funeral Services for transporting the team and also to Jordan Hargreaves who was fantastic in organising the transfer of baggage and for providing support throughout the route.”

Bosom Friends Trustee Mary Brennan said: “We are really overwhelmed by the incredible achievement of Team Chloe and the amount they have raised for the group.

“Although based in Barnoldswick the group is keen to help anyone affected by cancer in the whole of Pendle.

“We are particularly pleased that we have recently found someone to represent us in the Skipton area. This naturally means that we can extend the support we give thanks to the generous donations from events such as Cycle for Chloe.

“The main aim of the group is to ‘simply be there’ when needed. It was an honour to be able to offer support to Chloe and her family; she was a truly inspirational young lady.”
