PENDLE Forest completed their season with another win in a rearranged game against Morpeth on Saturday.

Already looking forward to next season, manager Scott Hornby made several tactical changes with a view to trying people out in new positions.

Both clubs were safe from relegation and unable to win promotion, so all there was to play for was pride.

Early Saturday morning captain Cathy Waters had to step into the goalkeeper kit when normal keeper Jayne Kirkpatrick fell ill.

Forest started well, passing the ball around midfield, and they scored an early goal when Jan Cormack burst through the Morpeth defence to score an absolute scorcher, hitting the ball in off the underside of the bar.

Both teams settled into the game and had opportunities to score, and after Karen Wignall made a poor tackle in the D, Morpeth were awarded a penalty stroke.

Waters made a fine save diving to her left to leave the score 1-0 at half-time.

Forest dominated possession early on in the second half and Kayleigh McKane went on a fine solo run, rounded three defenders and hit a superb reverse stick strike into the bottom corner to put Forest 2-0 up.

With the game relatively safe, veteran Helga Thelawalla made her annual appearance iand made a vital contribution. With five minutes to go she played a lovely ball threw the middle which split the Morpeth defence to find Sarah Towers, who lobbed the goalkeeper from the top of the D to complete a fantastic performance and seal a seventh place finish.

Pendle Forest would like to thank all the club’s sponsors and supporters this season.

As the thirds hosted Clitheroe, it was Lesley Davey’s (pictured) last game for the club, having captained the side for the last few years

Forest won 4-1, with Denise Tuck getting a hat-trick - a fitting end to Lesley’s association with the club, ensuring the thirds were not relegated.
