A PENDLE brickwork company working on some of the north’s biggest developments has appointed a new management team following the retirement of its former managing director.
Keith Walton Brickwork Ltd, based in Nelson, has made Harry Clayton its new MD, and has appointed a further two directors following the retirement of David Ferguson, who was also a minority shareholder in the business.
Lancashire commercial law firm Garricks has advised founder and owner of the business, Keith Walton, on the buyback of David Ferguson’s shares in the company.
The company, which works for some of the UK’s biggest contractors, including Lend Lease, Balfour Beatty, Galliford Try, and Interserve, along with Lancashire-based Conlon Construction Ltd, is targeting a turnover of £11 million in 2012/13, up from £9 million in 2011/12.
Current contracts include the new 13,500 capacity Leeds Arena for Bam Construction, Leeds’ Trinity Shopping Centre for Laing O’ Rourke, and a new Marks and Spencer store at Cheshire Oaks for Simons Construction.
Harry joined the company as a bricklayer 20 years ago, while four other directors have also been promoted from within the firm. Grahame Crossley was appointed surveying director in 2003, Wayne Kelly contracts director in 2006, followed by new additions Ian Jump and John Wolfe who have just been made contracts directors.
Harry said: “The formation of a new management team represents a new era for the business. We have successfully moved into new sectors to replace work we lost during the downturn and are on target to get turnover back to around the £11 million mark, which is where we where before the recession.”
