Pendle Forest Cobras fight back to lift League Cup

PENDLE Forest Under 9 Cobras won the North Valley League Cup Final at a rainsoaked, windswept Barnoldswick Town.

Both teams managed some superb football in awful conditions, and it was a hard, closely fought contest.

Alfie Percival gave the Cobras the lead early on, but this was wiped out by Baron’s goals either side of half-time, and but for great goalkeeping from Harrison Howarth it could have got out of reach for Forest.

As it was, Joe Webb re-ignited the Cobras fight back. First his shot struck a post and was cleared but in the next attack Webb got the all important equaliser and wrestled back the initiative.

Stan Dickinson got the crucial third with a low drive and with Thomas Holden, Jevan Stevenson, Ethan Conner and Elliot Barker all solid in midfield and defence it was left to captain Luke Stowe to put gloss on the victory with a well taken fourth.

Coach Andy Webb said: “It was horrible conditions, and for those boys from both sides to play as well as they did was incredible. I have got to commend the superb support from both clubs. I know I’m very proud of our players for how well they have done this season, and I’m sure the Barons are too.

“I would like to take the opportunity to thank all my players, coaching staff and parents for all their efforts this year.”
