PENDLE travelled away to Manchester-based Old Bedians for their last game of the season and came away with a bonus point win to see them finish in fourth place.

The home side opened the scoring with a three-point penalty when Pendle were caught offside at a ruck. Phoenix then stole the ball at the line out through Craig Wiseman and when the backs moved the ball wide it was Jonny Harper that tore the defence open with his electric pace to score in the corner.

Pendle were winning the battle in the contact areas and when Luke McNamee turned the ball over at the ruck it was once again moved wide to winger Rob Lawless who found support from Aldo Trapanese on his inside who unselfishly passed to Nick Martin to score and give Pendle a seven-point lead.

Straight from the restart James Finucane caught the ball and support from Shawn Moss and Dave King drove the ball forward and a quick pass allowed Tee Hempstead time to put Rob Lawless through the gap in the defence and score under the posts.

Danny Rowland then scored the easy conversion to send Pendle in at half-time a with 3-17 cushion.

Pendle continued to dominate the set piece line out and scrums and when Bedians were driven off their own ball a quick pass to Paul McGladdery allowed him to draw his man and put Sonny Waddington into space who then switched the ball back inside to Rob Lawless to score his second try. Danny Rowland added the extra two points with a successful conversion.

Phoenix made wholesale changes to give the bench a run out and Michael Clapham, Stu Riley took over in the front row, with Dave Morris adding his pace to the backline. Pendle were now in the driving seat.

Ben Peverley to Craig Wiseman and once again Nick Martin was on hand to round off the move to give Pendle a 3-29 lead. Manchester never gave up and when they were awarded a penalty the quick thinking scrum half tapped the ball and darted under the posts to score the last points of the afternoon.

Phoenix now have a well deserved rest and look forward to showing off their new signings for next season.

The R.E.M man-of-The-Match was James Finucane who also takes over as the captain for the 2012/13 Season.

The club would also like to thank Dave King f and wish him well in his retirement.

Aldo Trapanese is leaving to play in Australia this summer and the club look forward to his return.
