AT Marsden Park, a full field enjoyed a season-opening Salvo, First Medal.
The overall winner was Barry McWhinney with 45 points.
In the 0-11 category, Nathan Lingard won with 40 points, ahead of David Walton, who was second on the card from Sam Balderstone with 39 points.
In the 12-17 category, first was Steve Green, again with 40 points.
Neil Earnshaw was second with 39 points, with Martin Shaw third, a further point adrift.
In the 18-28 category, Andrew Tootle’s 42 points came out on top, ahead of Lee Whalley (41 points) and Martin Terry, who was third with 38 points after a card play-off.
For the ladies, Margaret Frankland was three points clear of the field with 39 points.
Janet Kelly (36 points) was second, with Cheryl Gorman (32 points) third.
The junior event saw some excellent scores.
Matthew Heap won with 56 points, ahead of Tyler Baxter (45 points).
• NELSON ladies held their first proper competition of the new season last Thursday - the Stableford Singles.
Marion Wilkinson won with 40 points from Christine Fletcher (39 points) and Ann Wardley (38 points).
All three ladies had their handicaps reduced by a shot to 15, 23 and 18 respectively.
The juniors played for the Terry Robbins Cup on Friday.
Due to fog, the event became a nine-hole Stableford, won by George Stanworth with a superb 26 points.
Second was Joe Rigby with 21 points, the same as Joe Flannagan in third.
Then the Nine-Hole Medal was won by Morgan Myers’ 57-20-37 - three shots clear of Frasier Bunting (58-18-40).
Nelson are to host a junior open, sponsored by Howard Rigg, on June 6th, with entries accepted up to June 2nd.
• THE ELGA Qualifier was held at Colne on Saturday, with the final to be played at Burnley Golf Club in early May.
First with a round of 70-6-64 was Matthew Iveson, three strokes clear of Keith Wilson (81-14-67) and Eric Dale (85-18-67).
The gross prize went to Paul Boothman.
Last Thursday, the ladies of Colne began their 2012 golfing season in style, Irene Lonsdale and Ann Waddington especially.
Both scored 35 stableford points, but Irene claimed first place after a card play-off, with Ann second and Joan Finley in third with 34 points.
